Piano Care
|
Pianos
are extremely sensitive instruments.
An ideal environment for a piano would be a temperature and humidity
controlled room which is away from any sun light.
In reality it is unlikely that you would have such a room in your house.
So, where possible try to keep your piano away from radiators, air
condition vents or any place where there are changes in temperature.
Avoid placing the piano next to a window as sunlight can also do damage
to the casework and can bleach the colour of the keys.
Pianos are happy when the relative humidity is between 40-45%. As a
general rule, if you're comfortable in the room, not too
hot/cold/thirsty, then your piano will be fine.
Avoid using furniture polish on the case work as this can damage the
finish over time and ruin the wood. Feather dust the piano first and
then use a cloth in the direction of the grain.
Do the same as above when cleaning the keys but use a white cloth for
the natural notes and a different cloth for the sharps as the colour
could run onto the naturals.
